Brazilian Portuguese Language Program For High School Students

The BCA-AB Brazilian Portuguese Language and Culture Module is a credit course for the Calgary Board of Education- CBE - High School students.
Students of other high schools in the region are also welcome to attend.

Here some info about the course program:
  • designed by professionally trained native Brazilian instructors to comply with the CBE Language Program component of the International Certificate, as a special project of the BCAAB supported by the Brazilian Consulate in Vancouver
  • offered with content related to Brazilian geography, tourism and ecology
  • 6 group levels of knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese Language with 20 hours of classes for each level
  • there is also a possibility of special classes to address the needs of more advanced students

Call for Registration

Classes start in October of 2017, and then Winter, Spring and Fall of 2018 and so on.
The levels are described below as a reference to help interested students identify their level for registration. In case of any questions, please contact us.
  • Beginner 1 - none or minimum previous knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese or of any other Latin language
  • Beginner 2 - previous exposure to Brazilian Portuguese or fluency in other Latin
  • Intermediate 1 - ability to understand the language to know the main topic when listening or reading Brazilian Portuguese, as well as, to speak using small sentences to carry out short conversations in a one on one basis
  • Intermediate 2 - ability to understand the language through listening, and reading, with some limitations to speak, but able to form full sentences
  • Advanced 1 - ability to understand the language through listening, reading, as well as, speaking using full sentences with basic vocabulary, in a one on one basis,  with ability to write short sentences
  • Advanced 2 - ability to understand the language through listening, reading, and speaking using full sentences fluently, with proper grammar, in a one on one basis or in a group conversation, as well as, ability to write short essays using proper grammar
Location: CASA DO BRASIL - 10208 Elbow Drive SW - Calgary, AB T2W 1G1
Time: 4 to 6pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays OR on Saturdays to be determined when the class is filled.

Payment fee for the 10 two-hour sessions: 
  • Members in good standing = $100
  • Non-Members = $120

Let's Sing !
Aiming to preserve and promote the Brazilian Culture in Canada, BCA-AB is creating a singing group (choir).
The rehearsals (about 1.5h) are weekly at Casa do Brasil, at the time that best suits the participants' schedules.
